Hayye Sara (Chayei Sarah, Chaye Sarah, or Hayye Sarah (חַיֵּי שָׂרָה — Hebrew for “life of Sarah,” the first words in the parshah) (Genesis 23:1–25:18) has many Human Rights messages for our day and age.
Hayye Sara has provided many ideas for the Rabbis of Rabbis for Human Rights to discuss the meaning of the narratives of the purchase of a burial place for Sarah in Hebron, the search and selection of a wife for Isaac, the story of Rebekah by the well, Rebekah’s mother’s household and the meeting of Isaac and Rebekah, Abraham’s marriage to Keturah, the birth of Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah, the death and burial of Abraham in the cave of Machpelah in Hebron with Sarah, Isaac settling near Beer-lahai-roi and Ishmael’s progeny dwelling in lands all the way from Havilah, near Egypt, to Asshur.
